Six teams hoping season goes swimmingly By JAKE LINGER Sports Editor
Each of the six area swim teams kicked off their Prince-Mont Swim League season last weekend and, for the most part, each performed at a high level.
While not every team finished its meet with a higher number of points than their competitor, there was not one Bowie pool that suffered a lopsided defeat.
Within the next few weeks swim fans will have a good idea of who the "prime time" teams will be and which teams will need a little more retooling for 2009. Regardless, each team has a passionate coach who is dedicated to having fun as a first priority and winning as a close second.
The lone Division F team is the Severn Crossing Stingrays and they opened up 2008 with a tight 261-235 loss to Prince George's Pool. Severn Crossing was poised to have a shot at the win, but no-shows cost the team much needed points - 37 points at least. However, losing by 26 points is a credit to those swimmers who showed up to the pool Saturday ready to swim.
Pointer Ridge (Division D) and Belair Swim and Racquet (Division B) were the two city pools that emerged with Week 1 victories. PRST defeated Prince George's Council (Division E), 273-245, while BSR won its match against Montpelier, 277.5-253.5.
Belair Bath and Tennis and Whitehall Pool and Tennis each lost close matches, 275-266, and 269-257, respectively, while Northridge lost its opening match to West Arundel, 293-239.
